About Troop 31
Boy Scout Troop 31 meets at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 3525 Bee Cave Road, in Austin, Texas, at 7 PM on Monday nights, except on the Monday after a camping trip, when the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meets.
The Troop Committee and troop parents meet on the first Monday of each month, except this meeting is delayed one week if the PLC meets that night.
The troop was reorganized with Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church as its chartered organization in April 2001, with 14 then fifth graders who crossed over from Webelos. Today we have 55 Scouts registered with our Troop split into six patrols including a Venture Patrol. We have twenty-five Eagle Scouts and counting. Our scouts have been to the National Jamboree, Sea Base, Philmont, the Charles L. Sommers Canoe Base (Northern Tier), and numerous other high adventure bases. This past summer, 17 Scouts attended San Isabel Scout Ranch, 9 Scouts participated at Philmont and 6 Scouts attended the BSA camp at Catalina Island, California. Every year our scouts participate at Hornaday, Merit Badge University, Winter Camp at Lost Pines, Camporee as well as camp out once a month during the school year. Summer is reserved for longer term camping and family events like boating, water tubing, zip-lining, etc.

About our Logo
The phoenix is a bird from ancient Greek, Egyptian and Arabian mythology that lived in Arabia and was sacred to/or a servant of the sun god of ancient Egypt. The phoenix is described as a heron in Egypt, but is usually depicted as a peacock or eagle-like bird with red and gold plumage. Only one phoenix could exist at one time and every 1000 years when it felt its end coming, the phoenix would build a nest to be used as a funeral pyre. The old phoenix would then be consumed in flames and burned to ashes. A new phoenix would then rise from the funeral pyre to reign in its place.
Troop 31 was first chartered probably in the 1930s at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. After a long time of successful operation, membership began to dwindle, most likely due probably because the population served by the church changed. No members of the troop re-registered for 2001, and it looked like the troop had died. Four months later the charter was moved to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 14 Webelos signed on, and the troop was reborn. The troop chose the phoenix as its troop emblem about a year later.
